I refuse to believe this is what should be considered a &quot;good western&quot; or even an &quot;epic western&quot; there are no gun fights, there is no romance,there is no substance at all!!!!! How can this movie be considered anything but boring???? It starts outa thrilling chase, then reverts to a little action and gore, then there&#39;s a desperate man chasing the remnant&#39;s of what used to be a yankee general for killing his family on accident! why the hell the Colonel&#39;s Wife say WAIT my BABY is upstairs!!!! the second they started burning the barn and house? she waited and spit on everybody and didn&#39;t say a damn thing about a baby! what a stupid woman! It&#39;s not like she said NOOOO and then he said burn it anyways he freaked out and said he didn&#39;t know! It was a stupid plot with no substance to speak of… random scenes were just laughable like the mysterious Indian and the CURE ALL woman which made no sense and didn&#39;t do anything but fill up time and make the story seem a little more of a comedy than anything.<br/><br/>Seriously seeing those two grown men stumble around in the desert for an hour was terrible!!! SOO BORING!!! I can&#39;t believe this got TWO thumbs up!? I&#39;m glad I didn&#39;t buy it and only rented it.. i will till all my friends to avoid this movie like the plague. Reminiscent of &#39;Unforgiven&#39; but not unduly so. Two talented and resourceful actors and yet it doesn&#39;t quite pull it off. The pace is even and progressive making for an enjoyable movie. The cinematography is second to none and the hues and vistas captured quite beautifully. Of themselves, they create an important character. <br/><br/>Towards the end, in a disjointed way, there emerges a meandering cameo, from Anjelica Houston. I found it pointless and it takes the whole film off the boil.<br/><br/>That said, I warm to Pierce Brosnan&#39;s post Bond, quirky script choices which are this and &#39;Matador&#39;. For my money this film is by far the better of the two. It fulfills a lot of the criteria for a successful oater: spectacular scenery, an evocative frontier atmosphere, an ensemble of enjoyably tight-lipped performances, and plenty of stylish violence.
